Learn English through British culture. This friendly, funded short course helps beginners build everyday speaking and writing while discovering UK customs and traditions. (Entry 1) 

Build confidence, explore UK life. This funded short course helps learners build confidence in speaking and understanding English through real-life topics about life in the UK. (Entry 2)  

Discover modern Britain, speak fluently. This funded short course develops your English fluency and cultural awareness by exploring modern British life and culture. Improve your speaking and writing for everyday and social situations. (Entry 3)
 

Who is it for? 

Entry 1  

  • Learners who are new to English, who can understand and use only a few everyday words and phrases  
  • Learners of English who need help communicating simple needs (e.g. buying food, asking for directions)  
  • Recent arrivals to the UK who want to learn essential English for everyday life and understand basic British customs.   

Entry 2
Adult learners who can use some English and want to be able to: 
 

  • talk about work, leisure and life in the UK  
  • learn more about UK culture and customs  
  • improve speaking and writing skills  
  • become more confident in work or social settings   

Entry 3   

Adult learners who can already speak some English and want to be able to:  

  • improve fluency  
  • expand vocabulary  
  • better understand British society  
  • become more confident in work or social settings 

You'll learn 

Entry 1   

  • key words and phrases for everyday situations in the UK  
  • practice speaking with others in a relaxed atmosphere  
  • to improve your writing skills  
  • more about British customs and traditions  

Entry 2  

  • how to communicate more confidently in English  
  • how to talk about daily life in the UK  
  • explore British festivals and culture  

Entry 3  

  • to express your ideas clearly in English  
  • to improve your speaking and writing skills  
  • take part in discussions about UK life  
  • understand modern British culture  

Outcome 

You will be able to use simple English to communicate in everyday situations in the UK and understand everyday British customs. (Entry 1)
 
 

You will be able to hold short conversations, talk about daily routines and leisure, and understand common British traditions. (Entry 2)  

You will be able to communicate confidently in everyday and social situations, express your opinions and understand aspects of modern British life and culture. (Entry 3) 

Your Tutor 

Mrs Ruth D is a highly qualified, experienced and supportive English tutor who helps adult learners progress with patience and encouragement. 

Progression 

Functional Skills English Level 1/2; into employment or voluntary work.

Dates: Tuesdays 2nd, 9th, 16th December 2025; 6th, 13th, 20th January 2026.

Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm; 13:00-15:00 (6 hours, 3 sessions in total for each Entry)
